Always learning!

Sophie and I spent an afternoon  teaching Bunbun to finger knit. She had long lengths of these finger knitted creations all over the house. A girl after my heart! She is quite fast at it and told me her art teacher taught them all how to finger knit. This would be a wonderful way to make trim for a Chanel jacket! Anyone else out there know how to finger knit?

ETA: I just found a great video on Youtube that shows how to do this. Sophie asked me to tell you that she was the only one in her class that figured out how to tie things off. She also told me it comes out better with multi colored yarn as this video says.

  10. What a great photo!!! Yes, I know finger knitting. My kids attended a Waldorf school which teaches finger knitting in kindergarten. They move to needle knitting in first grade. This helps kids with spacial subjects, like math. I taught myself to finger knit as a kid.

  11. Yes, I remember learning to finger knit in elementary school! It was a great way to pass the time, and required nothing but yarn! Wonderful smiles happening in that picture, you two are a cute couple of crafty chicks!

  12. Hi Bunny! For one year when I had just started teaching sewing lessons and was not yet too busy, I helped out a friend who works a part-time/erratic by nannying her 2 daughters. The youngest, who was 6 at the time, taught me to finger-knit! I don't remember how old I was when I learned to knit with needles - maybe junior high? - but I do remember knitting an afghan for my room in high school.

I love passing on craft/art knowledge to kids - and also learning from them. I am constantly amazed by the beautiful, fun things my young sewing students make during their "free sew" time in my studio. More art in schools and homes!

    1. Sad to say, I have no skills when it comes to crochet and knitting. I do think I can handle finger knitting, however. I would love to find someone who could teach me to crochet, even if it is just for one afternoon. Maybe Sophie will teach me one day.

    1. No, I did not. I went on a sparkle binge right before Christmas buying this to go with my brown and beige pants and a black and grey tweed with sparkles to go with my new grey jeans. It's odd because I don't usually do sparkles but these called out to me. The one you see I actually purchase in a size XL. I liked the way it looked the best.

  15. I am familiar with finger weaving, but have never seen finger knitting. This is definitely something I will do with my 8 year old niece.

  17. My grandkids finger knit. Last year they made scarves that they had knit. Even at 8 and 9 they are quite fast at it. Before you know it they have a long piece going.

I agree, a great picture. micky
