  1. Enjoy yourself! Sergers can be frustrating at times, so if you get fed up, just walk away for awhile. My best advice is to make yourself a "sample book" of the different types of stitches and keep it for reference.

    1. Great idea. I have plenty of experience with my old serger but all I have ever done with it is finish seams. I hope to move on with this one!

    2. Hi there Bunny,

Would you consider doing a little blog feature on the basis of using a serger. My DH has bought me a brother 3034d for christmas and it will be all new to me. I am getting puzzled by being told about using floss thread or other types of thread in the loopers and normal thread for the needles. I understand I would want to use good quality thread in the needles as that would be holding the seams together. What darling friend is your best advice about threads for the upper and lower loopers??

Will I be smiling or screaming at the end of Christmas Day...............I am so excited!!

Enjoy your fabulous new toy and let us know how you get on. We all know that you will sail through with flying colours.
      Hugs,

  2. Hi Bunny! Congratulations on your new machine. I just found your blog this week and it has been so enlightening for me (a newbie). I am longing to sew my own clothes (and for my little ones)..so far i have just made quilts and some little things. I found your blog because i was trying to find information on sewing with tapestry. Your post with your tapestry bag helped so much. I want to sew a bag with some lovely tapestry i picked up at joanns...
can i ask your advice? I found the free pattern by made by rae called the buttercup bag (http://www.made-by-rae.com/2009/02/free-buttercup-bag-sewing-pattern/) and was going to make it larger. Would that work for tapestry in your experience or would the pleat seams be too bulky? I'd really appreciate your input.
    Thank you!
    Anna

    1. I think the tapestry would be lovely for this bag. It will certainly have some body to it but I think it will work fine. One thing I do and I can't remember if I mentioned it in the post is I wash my home dec tapestries. They are a delight to sew after that. I use the dryer too but watch them closely. Make sure edges are serged so they don't unravel. When done your tapestry is very soft and manageable. Don't use high heat or hot water, just warm and low. I highly suggest a sample square first if you decide to do this.

  5. Have fun! I hate you haven't been able to get on ES. Have you tried using a different browser? I know I couldn't post on my blog when I was on IE8, but I can with Firefox.
