This is the time of year when most sewing bloggers, all sewn out from fancy party dress making or gift making, tell the world what they have accomplished over the past year. While I think I have accomplished a fair amount my holiday happiness included very little sewing due to circumstances beyond my control. But, this weekend I managed to get everything back in order in the visible parts of my sewing haven. Today we have help coming to move furniture back in the family room and this weekend is looking good for completing the whole project. We still need a staircase rebuilt. That is coming from the Amish and one must wait for their skills around these parts. Waiting is OK when it literally saves you a thousand or two. We also have a finish carpenter to come in and build our transition millwork. Seems our transitions are rather unusual and need to be built by a craftsman. I don't want to think what that will cost but we will make up for it with the staircase. All that remains on my part is reorganizing all the mess in my fabric room where so much has just been shoved. A long weekend should help that happen.
I did get my small bakers rack painted white and filled up and I so love it all. The doors still need to be hung on the closet but since I am in and out so much it will probably be the last thing to happen.
So I am looking forward to sewing, not looking back. I have great plans, not quite prioritized, but all excite me nonetheless. There will be my pants draft from Sure Fit Designs. I am really excited about that. There will be mucho dolly clothes making for new American Girl additions to the family. Then there will be attempt number two at a classic winter coat out of a yummy black wool/cashmere mix.Throw in a couple of Koos bags, a slipcover for an ugly old wing chair that really is a quality piece of furniture, just ugly, and some of whatever I can do for some instant creative gratification. I may even squeeze in another Chanel Jacket before all is said and done and 2014 rings in. Oh, and I forgot the window treatments for my great room that have seemed to been thrown to the back of the queue. Of course, next year, you bloggers will inspire me to new heights and new creative endeavors with all the cool things you make and I will stop everything just to try one of your amazing efforts in my own style.
So I am looking forward to some serious sewing in my lovely little space and some much appreciated serious inspiration from all of you, dear sewing friends. You never fail me and are so appreciated and cared for....
I'll leave you with a shot of my bird bath which I think may be 2 1/2 feet tall. The snow line here is about 3 inches below the full height of the bird bath in this picture. It was all the way to the top a few hours later. We have had 2 1/2 feet of snow in the past week and are sitting her waiting for the next 2-5 inches tomorrow. Winter is here and we are hunkered down.........Bunny
Bunny, I'll be looking forword to hearing all about your new projects...all of them sound exciting to me! I've not made a winter coat yet, and so this I will watch with special interest. I think it would be so thrilling to make a winter coat...especially out of the fabric you are going to use! Slip covers are not a forte' of mine...and I also have a nice chair that REALLY needs one. Actually, I love everything you do : )

Wow! Thatsalotta snow!!! Bunny, what a wonderful way to herald the new year, with a brand spanking new space. I hope that 2013 is wonderful. Hugs to you, too!
ReplyDeleteI can hear the relaxed smile in your voice! Happy Holidays, friend! Good luck with the carpentry and reorganizing efforts, it feels so good to have a fresh workspace, doesn't it? Stay warm and keep the fireplace burning toasty warm!
ReplyDeleteYou have it all planned out :) It looks like 2013 will be a good sewing year.
ReplyDeleteA bit of end-of-the-year musing here, which leads me to appreciation for your skills and creativity--and gratitude for your generous sharing. Happy New Year! Elle
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll be glad to get your home back in order. Disarray doesn't bode well with me. I've started on my SFD pants and will blog about it as soon as I get a chance to take a couple of photos. My first trial pair had a very good fit in the waist, abdomen and hips. I did have a drag line from the knee to the hem, toward the inseam. There is a fix for that in the pants manual, but on the SFD website, Glenda showed the same alteration, but in a different place. Anyway, I'll snap a picture in a couple of days and get it posted.
ReplyDeleteAll snowed in and ready to sew! Perfect!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to your space. I know you've missed it.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!!!
Bunny, you are a hearty woman because that much snow scares the dickens out of me! *smile*
ReplyDeleteWhat is it about winter that makes us want to re-organize and sort out messes from the previous year? Is it the confinement of bad weather, frozen birdbaths and the slower pace of a darker season? Whatever it is...we all can find some little corner of our world that could use a good dusting whether it be physical or mental. Thank you for your wonderful blog in 2012 and I look forward to more exciting news in 2013!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get everything completed and start to enjoy your space again very soon. That snow - wow - we have wind and rain lol.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Bunny.
That snow is breathtakingly beautiful. I treasure those outdoor pictures. Happy New Year, Bunny!
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone, for the appreciative comments. I am glad you enjoy my occasional nature pic. We love living in such a beautiful natural area and it gives us lots of photo ops that I enjoy sharing with you all.
DeleteSending you best wishes for a sew-happy 2013, Bunny! Your postings here and on Stitcher's Guild are inspiring - thank you for taking the time. It's really helpful to those of us with less training and experience :-)
ReplyDeleteJoyceP in Wisconsin, where we have snow, too.
