Simplicity 2501 Completed and the Camera Goes Wild!

This is the most difficult to photograph garment I have ever made. The double layers of stripes in places, the interfacing being white, my bra being white, the peplum being a bit sheer, all made this blouse look horrible. It really doesn't. I promise you. Its a dark dreary day here and I needed the light from the camera. It would go thru the fabric, pick up on the whiteness of the bra and interfacing and make that GLARE through, horrible. It no more does that in real life than a chickadee eats steak. So if it looks like it has fit wrinkles, smudges of dirt, is over the top sheer, trust me, its not. So thanks for your understanding.
I ended up putting it on the dumdum with a cami. The shots on me did not make this look very good.
I am very happy with the fit, however. I used a C-cup front from Simplicty 2501, size six at the top of the bodice and morphed out to size 12 in the peplum. I had to "petite" the pattern first, as always. No wrinkles! Yippee, as I didn't try it on once during construction. Talk about faith.

The top bodice is two layers of poly georgette. Facings were eliminated. The front edges were place on the fold for a double layer. Interfacing was placed in between in the button hole area only. I did not run any interfacing around the neckline. The neckline was finished with a double fold French binding. The bodice was treated as one with the darts on the inside of the blouse. The seams were mostly French seams with the armholes being serged. The hem was a "baby hem" as shown in yesterday's post. I also did a bias binding on the sleeve edges instead of two turns of the cloth as the patterns specifies. Here you can see the inner construction:
It feels good on. I do think this is a great pattern, particularly with all of the neck and sleeve options offered. Now that I know it fits, I won't hesitate to make more from it. I love peplums and am so glad they are in style right now. I find them very flattering to my lower half which can use minimizing in whatever form it finds it. Highly recommend, and I promise, if you see me in it, it will look a lot better than these pics....Bunny

  1. I really, really like this blouse. The striped fabric makes it look professional but the slightly puffed sleeves and the tie make it look a bit more feminine. You definitely scored a winner with this. Maybe you could take a photo outside when the sun shows its face so we can see it on you.

  2. It is a beautiful blouse Bunny. And I totally understand about the pictures...things that look great on my camera somehow don't look as great when they come out. However, you can't hide the wonderful work that you've put into this exqusite blouse!

  6. It's lovely! It looks great both inside and out. I like the narrow stripes. It's easy to imagine you getting a lot of use out of this blouse. Can't wait to see which variation you make next with this pattern.

  10. Very pretty, feminine blouse. It looks like a light blouse for spring/summer. I don't know what it is about the camera that sometimes plays havoc with our beautiful garments. As always, great sewing.

  12. What a gorgeous blouse! I love the fabric, but I know what you mean about things not photographing the way it looks. I recently was trying to send a photo to a friend, and no matter what I did with the settings on the camera, the jacket I was photographing looked blue, and not the purple that it was.

  16. Bunny,

This blouse is beautiful! Thank you for the tutorial on the baby hem and the details on your construction methods with a sheer fabric. It is so difficult to photograph stripes and have the picture turn out well.
